The Woodland Cookout is a relaxed, fun day in the woods based around an exceptional fire roasted venison dinner. Local, sustainably sourced meat from an ethical hunter, with roast vegetables and butter bath.
Before we eat, there will be time to forage seasonally and get hands on with some firelighting before we tuck into the main event.

Come and join us for an awesome, hands-on day in ancient woodland.
We’ll spend the day around the fire, learning a few old woodland skills, exploring the forest, foraging, cooking and, hopefully, having a good laugh along the way. Whether you’re a seasoned outdoors person or simply fancy getting back to nature for a while, we’ll welcome you into camp, get the kettle on and take it from there.
Welcome campfire brews:
When you arrive, we’ll get the fire going and put the kettle on for a proper cup of tea or coffee. It’s a chance to meet us, settle in and get into the woodland rhythm.
Forage & Forest Walk:
We’ll head out into the woods together to explore, look at seasonal wild foods and learn how to spot the things best left alone. We’ll also talk about reading the landscape and foraging responsibly, taking only what we need and leaving plenty behind for nature.
Fire-lighting Workshop:
Back at camp, we’ll get hands-on with fire lighting. We’ll show you different ways to get a fire going, including using natural materials from the woodland. You’ll have a go yourself and leave with some useful skills and the confidence to light a fire safely.
Wild Venison Feast:
Then it’s time to eat! We’ll cook a hearty wild venison feast over the open fire, making the most of simple ingredients and slow, smoky cooking.
Tom is mostly vegan, and we’re always happy to cater for vegetarian and vegan diets, so just let us know what you need when you book.
A final fireside brew:
As the fire settles down to embers, we’ll wind things up with full bellies, hopefully a few new skills and some good memories of the woods.
If you’d like to stay and camp overnight, we can arrange this for an additional cost — just let us know.
What to bring:
Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothes that you don’t mind getting a bit smoky, and sturdy footwear suitable for walking in the woods.
There’ll be shelter and somewhere to keep bags and take cover if the weather turns.
We want everyone to feel welcome and able to enjoy the day. We know woodland environments can present challenges, so if you have any questions or accessibility concerns, please get in touch with us beforehand and we’ll do our best to help.
Jim and Tom are outdoor instructors, avid travellers, adventure seekers and conservationists.
Freewheeling, fun loving friends on a mission to bring bushcraft and a connection to nature to those who experience barriers to access.
Fully trained NCFE bushcraft instructors, Jim and Tom both hold outdoor first aid, safeguarding, DBS checks and food hygiene level 2.
The Bushcraft Bus travels across the country delivering amazing sessions for school groups, events, festivals and businesses. We can set up our camp on any area of level ground (about the size of a tennis court) and provide a range of exciting activities for up to 140 people a day, including fire lighting, camp craft, nature education, wild foods and knife skills. And of course, when we’re gone, we leave no trace!
